Treavelling from Heathrow Airport?
Frequent, High-speed trains from Heathrow Airport to Central London
Heathrow Express is the fastest, most frequent way to travel between
Heathrow Airport and Central London. With no traffic jams, taxi queues or stops to worry about, you can be in the centre of London, or inside the airport, in just 15 minutes. Departing from London's Paddington station every 15 minutes, Heathrow Express delivers an airline-style experience the moment you step through the doors. Onboard enjoy Express TV, with up-to-date news and weather, as well as international and local information about destinations and attractions. There is a fully functional mobile application allowing you to seamlessly purchase your tickets and receive direct to your phone in less than 30 seconds. The app is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Java-enabled mobile devices. Ticket prices are as per online fares, so you save money as well as time. An Express Class Single ticket is £16.50 and Express Class Return ticket is £32. App bookings are only valid if purchased minimum 15 minutes in advance.
Travel is still important for Business Expansion
Tourism leaders at the Global Travel and Tourism Summit (held in Las Vegas May 15-18) agreed that travel is still essential for business growth. While technological advances such as teleconferencing have reduced the need for business travel, certain transactions especially those warranting long-term attention still require personal visits from company officials, said Kah Peng Aw, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board and one of the panellists at the summit.

The sponsoring World Travel & Tourism Council and several speakers weighed in with points supporting business travel that they hope land in corporate boardrooms worldwide. The London-based council has developed a report correlating business travel with corporate economic performance. Tourism Economics, a subsidiary of Great Britain's Oxford Economics, joined with the council on the report that found:

  • Business travel has a return on investment of $10 for every travel dollar spent.
  • Business travellers surveyed worldwide estimate that about 50 percent of their prospective customers became new customers with in-person meetings compared with 31 percent without such a meeting.
  • Four out of five executives - nine out of 10 in China - agree or strongly agree that face-to-face business meetings are essential to their organizations' success and that business travel improves a company's chances of increasing sales.

Tips for your Iphone
iPhone Travel Tips
  • Use Wi-Fi - Using Wi-Fi on your iPhone is free, and is available at various coffee shops, internet cafes, and libraries.
  • Keep Roaming Off - By Default, your phone should turn roaming off when you travel internationally, but you could accidentally turn it on if you're not careful. Make sure its off by switching to Airplane mode.
  • Buy an electrical adapter - This may be part of your travel plan already, but if not, you'll need an appropriate travel adapter to charge your iPhone.
  • Download Skype - This is a free app that lets you talk for next to nothing internationally. Here's their pricing detail.
  • Consider another phone - If you plan on making lots of calls, for under a hundred bucks, you can buy a cheapo phone with a considerable number of minutes. You can also pay as you go.
  • Consider an International Roaming Plan - If you know you will need data roaming when traveling abroad, definitely buy one of the pre-paid plans, which will significantly cut costs
  • Turn "Fetch New Data" Off - Some applications can automatically check for updates. You can turn off these features in your iPhone Settings.
Important information for all Air Canada customers
Important information for all Air Canada customers
Air Canada is very disappointed that an agreement with the CAW leadership has not been reached, leading call centre and airport check-in/gate agents at nine Canadian airports (Vancouver, Calgary,Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto Pearson, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's, NL) to take strike action.

Air Canada's full schedule will remain in operation and check-in/airport services provided at international and United States airports are not impacted. All of Air Canada's regional airlines, including Jazz® and the airport check-in services they provide are also fully operational.

Starting Tuesday, June 14, 2011, Air Canada has implemented its contingency service plan at airports and Call Centres to minimize impact on your travel plans. In anticipation of longer than usual lines at airport kiosks with limited available personnel:

The following steps will help you avoid long wait times at the call center and queues at airport check-in kiosks, and expedite airport processes:

  1. Check in online or on your mobile device at any time within 24 hours of your flight's departure.
  2. If at all possible, avoid travelling with checked baggage.

Be prepared
The following information can help ensure you have a smooth travel experience.

Check-in
Check in
online or on your mobile device at any time within 24 hours of your flight's departure. Although more than 500 self service kiosks for check-in and baggage tagging are available at the nine Canadian airports that would be affected by the strike (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto Pearson, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's NL), lines would be longer than usual with limited available personnel.

Take a few minutes to view the tutorial on self-service check-in tools. You'll learn everything you need to know about online, mobile and kiosk check-in.

Make sure you arrive at the airport in advance of recommended check-in and boarding gate deadlines to avoid problems associated with summer travel congestion.

Flight status
Air Canada Call Centres are currently experiencing higher than usual volume and therefore wait times are long. To avoid these lengthy wait times, we encourage you to:
Check your flight status online

Baggage and travel documents
If at all possible, avoid travelling with
checked baggage. Take the time to familiarize yourself with carry-on baggage rules and travel requirements and regulations for international flights. http://www.aircanada.com/en/news/trav_adv/labour_updates.html

Should you have further questions, please contact your UNIGLOBE Consultant.

Second Bag Fee Increase: Transborder and Atlantic
Effective for tickets issued or travel on/after June 1, 2011 for travel on/after that date, Air Canada will increase the second bag fee:

Markets Current fee Fee effective June 1
Canada-USA* 30 CAD/USD 35 CAD/USD
Canada/USA-Europe/India 50 CAD/USD 70 CAD/USD

If your ticket was issued prior to June 1, the current baggage fee applies. Air Canada will continue to check in your first bag free of charge.
